When saw Sloukas for the first time
Right now Google asks me to make room for new emails, files ecc. and this is the chance to read the old messages related to certain players. Some days ago I’ve found an email sent to Gherardini about Kostas Sloukas. I saw him in a world U20 tournament and was outstanding. I took some notes about him and i’ve sent them to Maurizio, ironically Kostas some years later has a lot of success with him in Fenerbahce.
The meaning of the scouting department:
The scouting department is so important right now in basketball. Take data about a player, appoint some notes about him generates particular feelings around him. Seems we’re a part of his career even if he’ll never come to our team. After the scouting we follow the player and years after we come back and read what we’ve said about him. Sometimes that predictions are wrong, sometimes not.
The scouting world is funny sometimes, I remember when we’ve recruited Devin Smith for Treviso. We’ve signed a contract literally in a blank paper found in the hotel hall. Was funny but good moments to remember.
Euroleague ecomomic situation:
Sustainability is the most important word about every sports, in particular basketball. This has to be the number one goal for the future. To be part of the Euroleague means you have to manage heavy costs sometimes, but if you to want to be with the best teams in Europe you have to organize yours. The best thing about Euroleague is the knowledge and sharing between teams. Despite come exceptions (teams comes from Eurocup) you talk with every team twice a year and for many years thanks to multi year licenses. You can compare situations, understand a lot of things and improve only talking and take the best form the bests. We, as Unics, are so improved this year for this reason.
About John Brown:
Sometimes knowing stuff about players is simple, but we’re used to ask not only to his teammates or coaches but we want to know something from opponents. About John I have clearly in mind a quote from Attilio Caja: “He’s a nuclear power plant”.
He’s contantly in motion and has the desire to improve and compete any given day. This is the type of player we want in our team.
On Lorenzo Brown:
We’ve found each other this summer. We need someone who want to embrace a leader role and Lorenzo wants the key of a Euroleague team and a chance to prove he’s a very good player. We’re very happy to have him and his guide. His style of play is a perfect completion of Marco Spissu’s one.
On Marco Spissu:
Marco is an incredible human being. He gives us a lot of quality from the bench, he has a very good attitude, and every one in the team can only say good things about him. He’s the perfect example of perseverance and he’s proving he’s a special guy. He’s made an incredible improvement in his game.
